Does anybody else think that we (western civilization) seem to have screwed up Christmas?
It seems to me that the retail industry, with the help of TV/movies, has enabled most of us to have brain freeze when we consider the nature/meaning/purpose of the event we call Christmas.
Christmas seems to have 2 primary story-lines going on at the same time:
for Christians it is (or should I say is supposed to be) about celebrating the birth of Jesus,
for people regardless of their religious beliefs it is about buying stuff.
Then there is .....what else do you think it is about?

Let me paint the picture of the NYC retail scene the first weekend of Dec --- Mobs of people. Cold. Cops with machine guns. Nets to keep people on the sidewalks and prevent them from walking out onto oncoming traffic. Snow. People. People. People! BUT, I am having a wonderful time.
