I was in a funeral procession today - all the way from St. Andrew to Sparkman-Hillcrest cemetery (located across the street from Northpark Mall.)
I was stunned by the number of people - in the opposing lanes who just blew on by, who never made any effort to slow down or much less pull over out of respect. The procession was very long and crossed a number of busy Dallas sidestreets so there were a number of traffic cops on motorcycles zooming about. In a number of cases I was nervous for them as commuters tried to zoom past them so as to not get stopped or at least temporarily held up.
What is the deal?!?!
Are parents failing to teach their children this respectful gesture?
I hear this notion is non-existent in the North and West as well as non-existent in foregin countries.
I do believe I am now officially an "old-fart."

why do our bodies give out?!
As you know I am "trying" to train to run a half marathon June 21 as a part of my commitment to Team in Training. I say "trying" because over the last 2 weeks I have been battling severe knee pain every time I jog or squat. It feels fine when I walk around, sit or stand?!
I have an appointment in the morning with a local knee Dr. - surely he will give me some magic "elixir," tonic or snake oil to make things all better!

Valentine time
How do you tell the people you love - that you love them?
a card? a gift? a good deed?
I think it is important to let our "loved ones" know how we feel - but I am resistant to do it on command!
How do you feel about Valentines Day?

Ideas needed!
As most of you know I have under taken a might big task - transforming from being a couch potato to running a half-marathon on June 21.
I need your ideas on this transformation. I have been walking- semi-jogging-doing exercise balls exercises almost everyday. So far I have lost 10 lbs and for the most part feel better but jogging is still painful.
I stretch EVERYTIME before I run, I warm up everytime, I bought good shoes at Run on ...but still it hurts.
I need to learn to either jog differently or some sort of enlightenment.

We have met our goal!
Amazing! Overwhelmed! Humbled! Why?
Because my family and friends have given so generously I
have reached my Team in Training fundraising goal of $4500.00!

Send me the names of your cancer heroes!
I sat down today and made a list of all the family, friends and church members I know who have been impacted by cancer and I was overwhelmed! The list covered all ages, men, women, boys and girls.
I continued to think of them as I went out to jog/walk and as I did I came up with an idea.
I would like to carry with me a list of all of these people as I train and eventually run in Alaska on June 21. If you are comfortable doing so - you are invited to send me the names of the people in your life who have been impacted by cancer.

I am amazed!
I am so touched by the generosity of my family and friends. In only a couple of weeks your donations have covered over 50% of my goal for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Team in Training! Please know for me this is so much more than about the money... it truly is about doing what I/we can to make a difference in the fight against cancer. This week I heard from a dear friend who lost her precious 5 year old to Leukemia many years ago. My good friend Rev. Kathryn and I were honored to go to the Hill Country to preside over the internment of Taylor - who fought a valiant battle against Leukemia! I will never forget the moment we stood alongside her casket under the huge Live Oaks. Taylor is one of the many heroes who motivate me to press on!
Please know that I am hard at work at being ready to run my half-marathon on June 21. Matther of fact I have commited to my daughter to run a St. Patrick's 5K with her on March 15.
Did you know there is a slang phrase in our culture for what I do when I go out to train ...it is called "wogging"...a combination of walking and jogging!
If you ever want to meet up for a little wogging please drop me a note.
